Deepening Your Personal Yoga Practice – Chakra Meditation

We often focus on the physical asana practice of yoga in the west, but there is so much more to yoga. Through practicing Yoga we learn to observe ourselves and our minds to work towards having control over our thoughts and bodily functions, leading to optimal health and liberation. We often miss the deep emotional and spiritual healing side of yoga. Here is a chakra balancing mediation you can do any time; when your energy feels low, when you are trying to process some difficult emotions, or when you just want some time for yourself and create that internal focus. This mediation will help you to develop your connection with your physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies.

  • Sit in a comfortable mediation position. Relax your legs, arms, hips, neck and shoulders. Place your hands on your lap or legs. Lift up through the spine. Let your mind relax and bring your attention to the breath.
  • Imagine a white light coming from the sky and pouring down into your crown chakra at the top of the head. Imagine this white light is universal healing energy. Allow this white light to travel down through your body, through your arms, spine, legs, and out through the base chakra, around the hips, and into the Earth. Imagine this white light travelling down through the Earth, reaching the Earth’s centre. This white light flows through your physical and energetical bodies and cleanses and heals what you no longer need. Releasing all negativity back into the ground, to be recycled.
  • Imagine this white light flowing through for a few minutes.
  • Bring your awareness to your base chakra, imagine a red flower opening at your base chakra. Imagine a red light emanating out of this flower. Imagine this red light healing, cleansing, and rejuvenating your base chakra. You may place one or both hands here to keep your focus on this chakra. Keep your mind clear and calm and observe if anything arises here for you in this chakra. Stay focused on the beautiful red flower with red light opening here, reflecting a strong healthy base chakra. Stay here for a few minutes.
  • Bring your awareness to your sacral chakra, imagine an orange flower opening here. Imagine an orange light emanating out of this flower. Imagine this orange light healing, cleansing, and rejuvenating your sacral chakra. You may place one or both hands here to keep your focus on this chakra. Keep your mind clear and calm and observe if anything arises here for you in this chakra. Stay focused on the beautiful orange flower with orange light opening here, reflecting a strong healthy sacral chakra. Stay here for a few minutes.
  • Bring your awareness to your solar plexus, imagine a yellow flower opening here. Imagine a yellow light emanating out of this flower. Imagine this yellow light healing, cleansing, and rejuvenating your solar plexus. You may place one or both hands here to keep your focus on this chakra. Keep your mind clear and calm and observe if anything arises here for you in this chakra. Stay focused on the beautiful yellow flower with yellow light opening here, reflecting a strong healthy solar plexus. Stay here for a few minutes.
  • Bring your awareness to your heart chakra, imagine a green flower opening here. Imagine a green light emanating out of this flower. Imagine this green light healing, cleansing, and rejuvenating your heart chakra. You may place one or both hands here to keep your focus on this chakra. Keep your mind clear and calm and observe if anything arises here for you in this chakra. Stay focused on the beautiful green flower with green light opening here, reflecting a strong healthy heart chakra, full of love. Stay here for a few minutes.
  • Bring your awareness to your throat chakra, imagine a blue flower opening here. Imagine a blue light emanating out of this flower. Imagine this blue light healing, cleansing, and rejuvenating your throat chakra. You may place one hand here to keep your focus on this chakra. Keep your mind clear and calm and observe if anything arises here for you in this chakra. Stay focused on the beautiful blue flower with blue light opening here, reflecting a strong healthy throat chakra. Stay here for a few minutes.
  • Bring your awareness to your third eye chakra, imagine a violet flower opening here. Imagine a violet light emanating out of this flower. Imagine this violet light healing, cleansing, and rejuvenating your third eye chakra. You may place one hand here to keep your focus on this chakra. Keep your mind clear and calm and observe if anything arises here for you in this chakra. Stay focused on the beautiful violet flower with violet light opening here, reflecting a strong healthy third eye chakra. Stay here for a few minutes.
  • Bring your awareness to your crown chakra, imagine a white flower opening here. Imagine a white light emanating out of this flower. Imagine this white light healing, cleansing, and rejuvenating your crown chakra. You may place one hand here to keep your focus on this chakra. Keep your mind clear and calm and observe if anything arises here for you in this chakra. Stay focused on the beautiful white flower with white light opening here, reflecting a strong healthy crown chakra, your true self. Stay here for a few minutes.
  • Bring your attention back to the white light you began with. Imagine the white light coming up through the Earth now and back into your base chakra. Focus on your base chakra and imagine the red flower closing, whole, healed and cleansed. Bring the light up through the sacral chakra and imagine the orange flower closing, whole, healed and cleansed. Bring the light up through the solar plexus and imagine the yellow flower closing, whole, healed and cleansed. Bring the light up through the heart chakra and imagine the green flower closing, whole, healed and cleansed. Bring the light up through the throat chakra and imagine the blue flower closing, whole, healed and cleansed. Bring the light up through the throat chakra and imagine the blue flower closing, whole, healed and cleansed. Bring the light up through the third eye chakra and imagine the violet flower closing, whole, healed and cleansed. Bring the light up through the crown chakra and imagine the white flower closing, whole, healed and cleansed.
  • Thank the white healing light and allow it to go back up into the sky. Be aware of how you feel. Be aware of your chakras feeling more balanced and energized. Take a moment to observe your mediation. Then start to wiggle your fingers and toes, and gently open your eyes.
  • This can be practiced once a day, once a week, or just when you feel your energy is down and you need a little boost.
