Start Your Yoga Journey with Confidence at Float Spa Hove
Thinking about trying yoga for the first time? You’re in the right place. At Float Spa Hove, we believe yoga is for everyone—no matter your age, experience, or flexibility level. If you’re feeling unsure about where to start, don’t worry. We’re here to guide you every step of the way.
From choosing the right class to knowing what to wear, we’ve created this beginner’s guide to help you feel relaxed, confident, and excited for your very first yoga session.
If you’re brand new to yoga, it’s important to start gently and give yourself time to adjust to the practice. Here are two great options to consider:
A private yoga class is a great introduction if you’re feeling a little nervous or want personalised guidance. It’s also ideal if you’re recovering from injury or want to build confidence before joining a group class.
If you’re ready to dive in and try a few styles, our 30 Days of Unlimited Yoga is the most cost-effective way to experience our wide range of classes. It’s perfect for beginners who want to explore and find what suits them best.
At Float Spa, we offer a variety of yoga styles—each with its own focus and benefits. Here are some beginner-friendly options to help you get started:
✔ Hatha Yoga – A gentle introduction to foundational postures and breathwork
✔ Restorative Yoga – Perfect for relaxation, stress relief and mindfulness
✔ Yin Yoga– Deep, passive stretches held for longer to target the connective tissues
✔ Therapeutic Yoga– Ideal if you’re recovering from injury or dealing with chronic tension
✔ Vinyasa Flow – A more dynamic option, but still suitable for beginners looking to move and build strength
✔ Body Medicine® Yoga – A unique blend of somatics, breath, and mindful movement for healing
Our friendly and experienced teachers are always happy to offer modifications and support, so you’ll feel safe and comfortable, whatever class you choose.
Comfort is key. We recommend:
👚 Lightweight, breathable clothing that allows you to move freely
🧦 Bare feet—no shoes or socks needed for most classes
🧥 A jumper or blanket for relaxation at the end of class (especially in Yin or Sound Bath sessions)
Nothing at all—unless you’d prefer to! At Float Spa:
✔ We provide mats, blocks, straps, bolsters, and blankets
✔ All equipment is cleaned and ready for you to use
✔ You’re also welcome to bring your own mat or props if you prefer.
To get the most from your session:
✔ Arrive early – Aim to arrive at least 10 minutes before class so you can settle in without rushing
✔ Stay hydrated – Drink water before and after your class to keep your body happy
✔ Let the teacher know you’re new – They’ll guide you through what to expect and offer extra support
✔ Avoid heavy meals right before class – A light snack is fine if needed
If you’re unsure, our reception team is always happy to help recommend a class and chat through what might suit you best.
Meeting the person guiding you can really ease any nerves. You can view our full team of highly trained, friendly instructors on our Meet the Teachers page and even have a chat with them before class if you arrive early.
Trying yoga for the first time is a wonderful step towards better health, inner calm, and body awareness. At Float Spa, we’re proud to provide a welcoming, supportive environment for everyone who walks through our doors—especially if it’s your very first time.
